JJ Whitefield (born James Jackson Whitefield, 1982) is a British multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter renowned for his work spanning funk, soul, electronic music, and jazz. Initially gaining prominence as the guitarist and primary songwriter for the acclaimed UK funk band The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ) from 2004-2012, he established a reputation for virtuosic playing and innovative arrangements.

Following his departure from JTQ, Whitefield launched a successful solo career focusing on meticulously crafted instrumental compositions. His albums – including *Servants*, *Return of the Djinn*, and *Something to Say* – showcase a distinctive sound blending live instrumentation with sophisticated production techniques reminiscent of artists like J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest. He frequently samples obscure library records and vintage soul cuts.

Whitefield’s work has been praised for its depth, groove, and cinematic quality.
