Jeff Coffin is a highly respected American saxophonist, composer, and educator renowned for his versatility across jazz, fusion, and contemporary instrumental music. Born in 1965, he gained prominence as a member of the Grammy-winning band Béla Fleck and the Flecktones from 1990 to 2006, contributing significantly to their distinctive sound with both tenor and soprano saxophone.
Beyond the Flecktones, Coffin has maintained a prolific career as a leader, releasing numerous albums under his own name – including “Empty Sky” (2003) and “Into the Ether” (2015) – showcasing his compositions and improvisational skills. He's also a sought-after sideman, performing with artists like Dave Matthews Band (touring member since 2009), Maceo Parker, and Mike Stern.
Coffin’s musical style blends intricate harmonic concepts with soulful phrasing and a strong rhythmic foundation. He's known for his technical proficiency and ability to seamlessly navigate diverse musical landscapes. A dedicated educator, he serves on the faculty at Berklee College of Music.
