Initially trained classically, Mourot shifted focus in the 1970s, dedicating himself to researching and performing the music of his native region. He became a pivotal figure in preserving the *boha*, a unique clarinet tradition of the Auvergne, characterized by its distinctive, often melancholic sound and complex ornamentation.

Mourot’s career includes extensive concert tours internationally, numerous recordings – notably with the ensemble “La Bohème de l'Auvergne” – and collaborations with artists across genres, including classical musicians and jazz performers like Didier Lockwood. He's released over twenty albums, many receiving critical acclaim for their authenticity and virtuosity.
