Jean-François Lapointe is a Canadian pianist renowned for his deeply expressive interpretations of Romantic and 20th/21st-century classical music, particularly the works of Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Liszt. Born in Quebec City, he studied at the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique de Québec with Marie-France Comeau and later with Anton Kuerti.

Lapointe gained international recognition after winning the Gold Medal at the 1995 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw – a feat achieved by only a handful of North Americans. This victory launched a global career that includes performances with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and the Tokyo Philharmonic.

His discography features critically acclaimed recordings of Chopin’s complete nocturnes (nominated for a Juno Award), Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos, and solo works by Debussy and Scriabin. Known for his technical brilliance combined with emotional depth, Lapointe consistently receives praise for his nuanced phrasing and captivating stage presence.
