Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is a French classical pianist renowned for his insightful and poetic interpretations, particularly of French composers. Born in Paris in 1962, Bavouzet studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Pierre Sancan and Aldo Ciccolini. He gained international recognition after winning the prestigious Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in 1985.

Bavouzet’s discography is extensive, focusing heavily on the works of Ravel – his complete Ravel recordings have been critically lauded – as well as Debussy, Satie, and Poulenc. He’s also championed lesser-known French composers like Gabriel Fauré and Florent Schmitt. Beyond French repertoire, he performs a wide range of music from Bach to contemporary composers like Tristan Murail.

He is celebrated for his clarity of touch, refined pedaling, and ability to illuminate the harmonic complexities within pieces. Bavouzet frequently appears with leading orchestras worldwide and at major festivals, including the Proms and Salzburg Festival. He’s a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with ensembles like the Emerson String Quartet.
