Jean Baylor is a critically acclaimed American singer-songwriter, producer, and educator known for her sophisticated blend of jazz, soul, and R&B. Rising to prominence as one half of the Grammy-nominated duo Zhane alongside Renee Neufville, she contributed vocals and songwriting to hits like “Crush” (1999) and “Hey Mr. DJ” (1999), establishing a signature smooth and melodic style.
Following Zhane’s hiatus, Baylor launched a successful solo career beginning with *Georgia Blue* (2006). Her subsequent albums – *Throwing Stones* (2010), *The Story of Isaac* (2013), and *Baylor’s Backwards Blues* (2017) – demonstrate her evolution as a composer and arranger, often incorporating personal narratives and socially conscious themes.
Beyond performing, Baylor is a dedicated educator, currently serving as Chair of the Vocal Performance Department at Berklee College of Music. She's garnered accolades including multiple NAACP Image Award nominations and continues to tour and release music independently, consistently praised for her vocal prowess and artistic integrity.
