Experience Jazz Pretenders
Jazz Pretenders are a Canadian instrumental trio – comprised of Adrian Vedady (guitar), Dan Fortin (drums), and Jon Maharaj (bass) – formed in Montreal in 2016. They’ve quickly garnered attention for their unique blend of jazz improvisation, surf rock energy, and cinematic soundscapes. Their music deliberately evokes the aesthetic of 1960s spy film soundtracks and library music, though entirely original compositions.
The band has released three critically acclaimed albums: *Jazz Pretenders* (2018), *About Time* (2020), and *Luv Fiction* (2023) on L'age D'Or Records. *About Time* was nominated for a Juno Award in 2021 for Instrumental Album of the Year.
Known for their tight ensemble playing and atmospheric arrangements, Jazz Pretenders have toured extensively across Canada and Europe, performing at festivals like Montreal Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival. They’ve been praised by publications like Bandcamp Daily and Exclaim! for their ability to create immersive sonic worlds that are both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
