Jazz Pistols are a British acid jazz/nu jazz collective formed in London in the early 1990s, initially as a project led by multi-instrumentalist and producer, Neil Sparkes. They rose to prominence with their debut album *Combustible* (1994) on Acid Jazz Records, blending live instrumentation with sampled elements and a distinctly cinematic quality.

Their sound draws heavily from 1960s and 70s spy movie soundtracks – think Lalo Schifrin and Ennio Morricone – fused with jazz harmonies, breakbeats, and funk grooves. Subsequent albums like *Hot* (1995) and *Life is Sweet* (1997) further refined this signature style, earning them airplay on stations like Radio 1 and critical acclaim in publications like *The Wire*.

Jazz Pistols have collaborated with vocalists such as Zara McFarlane and toured extensively throughout Europe. While maintaining a relatively low profile compared to some contemporaries, they’ve consistently released albums into the 2010s, including *No Sleep Till Croydon* (2013), demonstrating continued creative output and a dedicated fanbase within the acid jazz scene.
