Experience Javon Jackson

Javon Jackson is a highly respected American jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and educator. Born in 1965 in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Jackson honed his skills early, influenced by masters like John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. He gained prominence as a member of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers from 1988 to 1990, a pivotal experience shaping his hard-bop foundation.

Jackson launched his solo career in the early 1990s with albums like *Let No Man Put Asunder* (1992) and *Someone Else's Waltz* (1993), establishing a sound characterized by robust tone, lyrical improvisation, and rhythmic drive. He’s released numerous critically acclaimed albums on labels including Blue Note and Palmetto Records, consistently appearing on jazz radio charts.

Beyond performance, Jackson is dedicated to education, serving on the faculty of the Jazz Studies program at Indiana University since 2003. He's received multiple honors including being named a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition (1988).
