Janette King is a highly respected Australian jazz vocalist and educator, renowned for her scat singing and improvisational skills. Born in Sydney, she began performing professionally in the 1970s, quickly establishing herself within the Australian jazz scene. King’s style blends traditional jazz vocal techniques with influences from bebop, Latin jazz, and contemporary improvisation.

She’s a prolific recording artist, releasing numerous albums including “Change of Heart” (1986), which garnered critical acclaim, and later works like "Winter Song" (2002) and “Lullaby” (2014). Beyond performance, King is dedicated to vocal pedagogy; she developed the internationally recognized vocal technique “Vocal Fly” – a method focusing on freeing the voice through anatomical understanding and mindful practice – and runs workshops globally.

King has received several awards recognizing her contributions to jazz education and performance, including a Churchill Fellowship to study vocal improvisation in the US.
