Jan Jankeje (born January 27, 1982, Düsseldorf, Germany) is a German jazz drummer and composer renowned for his versatile and rhythmically sophisticated playing. He studied at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with renowned percussionists such as Wolfgang Hatzing and John Taylor. Jankeje quickly established himself on the European jazz scene, collaborating extensively with artists like Michael Wollny, Vijay Iyer, and Nguyên Lê.

His style blends post-bop sensibilities with elements of contemporary classical music and electronic textures, often employing extended techniques and unconventional percussion setups. Jankeje is particularly noted for his nuanced dynamics and ability to create immersive soundscapes.

He leads his own critically acclaimed trio, featuring Petter Eldh on bass and Marius Neset on saxophone, releasing albums like “Förderband” (2016) and “Berlin – Oslo – Copenhagen” (2020) to widespread praise. Jankeje has received several awards including the Neuer Deutscher Jazzpreis (New German Jazz Prize) in 2018, solidifying his position as a leading figure in modern European jazz.
