Jan Chalupecký is a Czech composer and sound artist renowned for his electroacoustic music, often incorporating field recordings and extended instrumental techniques. Born in 1979, he studied composition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague under Ivan Kurz, and furthered his education with post-doctoral research at the Institute of Sonology in the Hague.
Chalupecký’s work frequently explores themes of memory, perception, and the relationship between natural and artificial sound environments. His compositions range from solo instrument pieces – notably for piano and clarinet – to large-scale orchestral works and immersive installations. He’s received numerous awards, including the Czech Music Fund Award (2013) and prizes at international competitions like Gaudeamus Prize (nominee, 2015).
His albums, released on labels like Pot-Pourri Records and Full Void, have garnered critical acclaim for their textural richness and conceptual depth. Chalupecký actively participates in workshops and lectures internationally, fostering a dialogue around contemporary sonic art practices. He currently teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, continuing to influence a new generation of composers.
