Born in Philadelphia in 1987, Ross honed his skills within a deeply musical family – his father, Steve Ross, is a respected bassist. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia before relocating to New York City.
Ross first gained widespread recognition as a member of vocalist Esperanza Spalding’s band, touring extensively and appearing on her Grammy-winning album *Radio Music Society* (2012). He subsequently launched his solo career, releasing his debut album *Jamison* in 2015 to critical praise for its blend of sophisticated drumming and soulful vocals.
His style seamlessly integrates hard bop traditions with elements of gospel, R&B, and blues. He’s known for complex polyrhythms, nuanced brushwork, and an expressive vocal delivery reminiscent of classic jazz singers. Ross's subsequent albums, *Diaspora* (2017) and *The Kintsugi Project* (2019), further solidified his artistic vision and garnered nominations for Jazz Journalists Association Awards.
