J-Rad Cooley is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter hailing from Richmond, Virginia, deeply rooted in the funk, soul, and jam band scenes. Beginning his career as a drummer touring with various regional acts, Cooley quickly expanded his skillset to include guitar, bass, keyboards, and vocal production. He’s best known as the driving force behind the band Buttersscotch, consistently delivering high-energy live performances and blending elements of Parliament-Funkadelic with modern electronic production.

Cooley’s production work extends beyond Buttersscotch; he’s collaborated with artists like Dopapod’s Neal “Fro” Evans and has remixed tracks for Lettuce. His solo work showcases a more experimental electronic sound while retaining his signature funky grooves. He frequently utilizes looping and improvisation in both live settings and studio recordings.

Buttersscotch has released several EPs and full-length albums garnering attention on JamBase and Relix Magazine. Notably, their track "Vaporize" reached over 100k streams on Spotify.
