Experience Isaiah Collier
Isaiah Collier is a rapidly ascending American jazz saxophonist and composer born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1998. Heavily influenced by John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and McCoy Tyner, Collier’s sound is deeply rooted in the spiritual jazz tradition while forging a distinctly modern voice. He began playing saxophone at age 12 and quickly immersed himself in the city’s vibrant jazz scene, studying under renowned figures like Mwata Bowden.
Collier gained significant attention as a member of the Makaya McCraven ensemble before leading his own groups. His debut album, *Cosmic Transitions* (2022) on Blue Note Records, received widespread critical acclaim for its ambitious scope and intensely spiritual energy, earning comparisons to classic Blue Note recordings. He followed this with *Beyond* (2023), further solidifying his reputation as a powerful improviser and composer.
Known for extended, emotionally charged performances and complex harmonic structures, Collier's music often incorporates elements of gospel and blues. He’s toured extensively both domestically and internationally, performing at prominent festivals like Newport Jazz Festival and Winter Jazzfest.
