Experience Ike
Ike Turner (born Ike T. Turner, November 5, 1931 – December 31, 2007) was an American singer, songwriter, bandleader, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist. A pivotal figure in early rock and roll, his career spanned decades and profoundly influenced numerous genres. He initially gained recognition in the 1950s with “Rocket 88,” often cited as one of the first rock and roll recordings.
Turner’s musical style blended blues, boogie-woogie, and R&B, characterized by a driving rhythm section and energetic performances. He formed the Ike & Tina Turner Revue in the early 1960s with his then-wife, Tina Turner, achieving significant success with hits like “Proud Mary” (a cover that became their signature song), “River Deep – Mountain High,” and “Nutbush City Limits.” The Revue became renowned for its dynamic stage presence.
