Hiatus Kaiyote is an acclaimed Australian neo-soul band known for their genre-defying sound that blends elements of soul, jazz, funk, and electronic music. Formed in Melbourne in 2011, the group consists of vocalist Nai Palm, bassist Paul Bender, keyboardist Simon Mavin, and drummer Perrin Moss. Their innovative style features complex rhythms, lush harmonies, and Nai Palm’s distinctive soulful vocals, earning them a dedicated global following.
Hiatus Kaiyote’s debut album, *Tawk Tomahawk* (2012), quickly garnered critical praise for its fresh approach to neo-soul. However, it was their sophomore release, *Choose Your Weapon* (2015), that catapulted them to international recognition. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album and showcased the band’s ability to seamlessly fuse diverse influences ranging from hip-hop to progressive rock.
Known for their dynamic live performances and intricate musicianship, Hiatus Kaiyote has collaborated with prominent artists such as Anderson .Paak and Q-Tip. Their music has also been widely sampled by major hip-hop artists including Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
