Experience Helmut Eisel
Helmut Eisel (1936-2019) was a highly influential German composer, arranger, and pianist specializing in Schlager and easy listening music. Beginning his career in the 1950s as an accompanist for established stars like Marlene Dietrich, Eisel quickly transitioned to arranging and composing. He achieved significant success throughout the 1960s and 70s, crafting numerous hit songs for artists including Peter Alexander, Rex Gildo, and Heino.
Eisel’s style is characterized by lush orchestral arrangements, memorable melodies, and a distinctly romantic sensibility – hallmarks of the German Schlager tradition. He frequently incorporated elements of jazz harmony and sophisticated instrumentation into his work, elevating it beyond typical pop fare. Beyond composing, he was a prolific conductor for radio and television orchestras.
Notably, Eisel composed the iconic “Ich wünsche mir zum Geburtstag einen großen Palast” (I Wish For A Grand Palace For My Birthday) for Rex Gildo which remains a classic of the genre. He received several gold and platinum records throughout his career and continued composing & arranging until his death in 2019, leaving behind a substantial catalog celebrated for its craftsmanship and enduring appeal.
