Hannu Lintu is a highly respected Finnish conductor renowned for his interpretations of contemporary and 20th-century repertoire, alongside core classical works. Born in 1967, he initially studied violin before focusing on conducting, graduating from the Sibelius Academy. Lintu gained international recognition as Chief Conductor of the Lappeenranta City Orchestra (1998-2002) and the Jyväskylä Sinfonia (2001-2008).
He has held principal conductorships with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (2008-2014) and currently serves as Chief Conductor of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2017. Lintu is a frequent guest conductor with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Philharmonic.
Known for his precise technique, clarity of sound, and insightful programming, Lintu champions composers like Sibelius, Stravinsky, and Bartók. He’s particularly lauded for his recordings of Sibelius’s symphonies – critically acclaimed for their authenticity and power – earning multiple Gramophone Editor's Choice awards.
