Hamid Drake is a highly influential American jazz drummer, born in Chicago, Illinois in 1951. He’s renowned for his deeply spiritual and polyrhythmic approach to percussion, rooted in both the avant-garde and traditional African musical forms. Drake initially gained prominence in the 1970s playing with luminaries like Fred Anderson and Muhal Richard Abrams, becoming a cornerstone of Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM).

His style transcends typical jazz drumming; it's characterized by textural exploration, extended improvisations, and a commitment to collective music-making.
