Experience Guillermo García Calvo
Guillermo García Calvo is a Spanish classical guitarist renowned for his interpretations of Romantic and contemporary repertoire, particularly the works of Isaac Albéniz. Born in Burgos, Spain, in 1965, he began studying guitar at age eight and quickly distinguished himself, winning numerous national and international competitions including the Andrés Segovia Competition in 1991 – a prize considered a major launchpad for guitarists.
Calvo’s style is characterized by technical brilliance combined with a deeply expressive and poetic approach to phrasing. He’s dedicated to recovering and performing forgotten compositions by Spanish masters alongside commissioning new works. He has premiered pieces by composers like Jesús Torres Amorós and Leo Brouwer.
A prolific recording artist, Calvo's discography includes critically acclaimed albums of Albéniz (including complete recordings of his guitar works), Chopin-Tárrega transcriptions, and solo performances. He regularly performs on major international stages and is also a dedicated educator, holding a professorship at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón in Zaragoza. His contributions have been recognized with awards including the “El Ojo Crítico” award for best classical music performer in 2013.
