Grzegorz Karnas is a Polish jazz trumpet player and composer, renowned for his distinctive lyrical approach and mastery of improvisation. Born in Kraków in 1973, Karnas began his musical journey with classical piano before focusing on the trumpet, graduating from the Academy of Music in Katowice. He quickly established himself on the Polish jazz scene, collaborating with prominent figures like Janusz Muniak and Piotr Rodowicz.

Karnas’s style blends traditional jazz sensibilities with elements of contemporary improvisation and a noticeable influence of Polish folk music – particularly visible in his melodic phrasing and harmonic choices. He leads the Grzegorz Karnas Quartet, consistently performing at major European jazz festivals including Jazz Jamboree (Warsaw) and Montreux Jazz Festival.

He’s released several critically acclaimed albums as a leader, including “Before I Wake Up” (2016) and “Sounds of the Border” (2019), earning nominations for Fryderyk Awards – Poland’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards – for Jazz Album of the Year. Beyond performance, Karnas is also an active educator, conducting workshops and masterclasses internationally.
