Gottfried von der Goltz (born 1966) is a German percussionist and composer renowned for his innovative approach to contemporary and traditional music. Initially trained classically, he expanded his focus to non-Western percussion traditions, particularly those of India, Japan, and Africa, spending extensive time studying *tabla* with Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.

Von der Goltz’s career spans solo performances, chamber music collaborations, and orchestral appearances. He's a founding member of the internationally acclaimed ensemble, Ensemble Modern, where he has premiered numerous works by leading composers like Pierre Boulez and Kaija Saariaho. His solo work frequently integrates prepared piano alongside diverse percussion instruments, exploring extended techniques and microtonal tunings.

He’s released several critically lauded albums as a soloist on ECM Records, including “Electronique Noire,” showcasing his unique sonic palette. Von der Goltz also composes for film and theatre, further demonstrating his versatility. Recognized for his meticulous sound design and virtuosic playing, he regularly conducts workshops globally promoting cross-cultural musical understanding and percussive innovation. He currently teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
