Experience Gerald Finley

Gerald Finley is a highly acclaimed Canadian baritone renowned for his interpretations of Mozart, Strauss, and contemporary opera. Born in 1960, he studied at the University of Toronto and the Royal College of Music, London. Finley’s international career blossomed in the late 1980s, quickly establishing him as a leading figure on stages including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Metropolitan Opera, New York; and Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich.

He’s particularly celebrated for his nuanced portrayals of Papageno (*The Magic Flute*), Count Almaviva (*The Marriage of Figaro*), and Billy Budd. Beyond the classical repertoire, Finley consistently champions new works, notably originating roles in operas by Thomas Adès (*The Tempest*) and Kaija Saariaho (*L'Amour de Loin*).

Finley’s vocal style is characterized by its lyrical quality, expressive depth, and technical security. He's a multiple Grammy Award nominee and recipient of numerous awards including an Olivier Award for Best New Opera (for *Doctor Atomic*). He maintains a busy concert schedule alongside his operatic engagements and is also a respected recitalist.
