George Cole (born February 2, 1944, London, England) is a British jazz pianist renowned for his elegant and swinging style, deeply rooted in the stride piano tradition. Initially gaining recognition in the late 1950s playing with leading British jazz figures like Tommy Sampson and Johnny Dankworth, Cole established himself as a soloist during the 1960s, becoming a central figure in the British jazz scene.

His playing is characterized by a sophisticated harmonic approach, impeccable technique, and a playful, often humorous, energy. Cole actively championed the music of Fats Waller throughout his career, both performing and recording extensively from Waller’s catalogue. He led various trios and quartets, consistently touring internationally and appearing at major jazz festivals.

A prolific recording artist, Cole released numerous albums for labels like Decca, Columbia, and Spotlite Records. Notably, his album *Playin’ the Game* (1976) became a celebrated work.
