Experience Fenella Humphreys
Fenella Humphreys is a British violinist celebrated for her insightful interpretations and compelling stage presence. Trained at the Royal College of Music with professors including Itzhak Rashkovsky, she established herself early on winning the 2013 Gold Medal in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. Humphreys doesn’t confine herself to a single stylistic niche; her repertoire spans Baroque through contemporary works, demonstrating particular affinity for composers like Ysaÿe and Bartók.
She’s known for her thoughtfully curated programmes, often exploring narrative connections between pieces and incorporating lesser-known works alongside established classics. A dedicated chamber musician, Humphreys frequently collaborates with renowned ensembles and performs at major international festivals including Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Aldeburgh Festival.
Beyond performance, Humphreys is committed to education, leading workshops and masterclasses. Her recordings have received critical acclaim, notably her albums of Ysaÿe solo sonatas (Chandos Records) praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. She currently plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1743), generously lent to her by the Beare’s International Violin Society.
