Fabio Luisi is an Italian-Swiss conductor renowned for his interpretations of Italian and German Romantic repertoire, as well as a commitment to operatic performance. Born in 1959, Luisi began his career as a répétiteur at the Zurich Opera before becoming General Music Director of the Stadttheater Bern (1990-1994). He gained international recognition through engagements with major opera houses including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera (where he served as Principal Conductor from 2005-2017), and the Vienna State Opera.
Luisi’s conducting style is characterized by clarity, attention to detail, and a lyrical approach, particularly evident in his Wagner and Verdi performances. He's lauded for his meticulous preparation and ability to draw nuanced performances from orchestras. Beyond opera, he has held positions as Chief Conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich (2001-2008) and Dallas Symphony Orchestra (2021-present).
