Experience Eric Harland
Eric Harland is a highly influential American jazz drummer, born November 22, 1970, in Washington, D.C. He rose to prominence in the 1990s as a key member of Charles Lloyd’s quartet, alongside Brad Mehldau and Larry Grenadier, significantly shaping the modern jazz sound. Harland’s distinctive style blends deeply rooted tradition with innovative polyrhythms and textural exploration, often described as simultaneously subtle and explosive.
He's a prolific sideman, appearing on over 300 albums with artists like McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, Gary Burton, and Terence Blanchard. Beyond his extensive collaborative work, Harland leads several of his own critically acclaimed ensembles including Voyager (featuring Ambrose Akinmusire & Julius Rodriguez), and currently, Ethnic Heritage Ensemble (continuing the legacy of his father, Yusef Lateef).
Harland received a Grammy Award in 2017 for Best Jazz Instrumental Album as a member of Robert Glasper Experiment’s *Black Radio*. He's consistently ranked among the top drummers by *DownBeat* and *Modern Drummer* magazines.
