Experience Ensemble TIMF

Ensemble TIMF (Texture, Improvisation, Mutation, Fusion) is a South Korean new music ensemble founded in 1999 by composer and conductor Jinhee Park. Originally established as the Tongyeong International Music Festival’s resident ensemble, TIMF quickly evolved into an independent group dedicated to contemporary classical music. The ensemble champions works by Korean composers alongside internationally recognized figures like Kaija Saariaho and Helmut Lachenmann.

TIMF's instrumentation is notably flexible, often incorporating traditional Korean instruments alongside Western classical ones – frequently featuring *gayageum*, *haegeum*, and *piri*. This fusion creates a unique sonic palette characterized by textural exploration and innovative performance practices. They are renowned for their commitment to commissioning new works, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for contemporary composition.

Significant accomplishments include numerous critically acclaimed performances at major international festivals including Darmstadt Summer Courses, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and the Venice Biennale. They’ve released several recordings on labels like ECM New Series, garnering praise for their precision and interpretive depth. Ensemble TIMF consistently receives awards and recognition within South Korea for its contribution to the development of contemporary music.
