Ensemble Matheus, founded in 1987 by Jean-Christophe Spinosi, is a highly regarded French period instrument ensemble specializing in Baroque and Classical repertoire. Initially focused on French Baroque masters like Lully and Charpentier, the ensemble quickly broadened its scope to encompass Italian and German composers including Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach. Spinosi’s meticulous research and commitment to historically informed performance practice are central to Ensemble Matheus's distinctive sound.
