Experience Ella
Ella Fitzgerald (1917-1996) was an American jazz singer, widely regarded as one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century. Beginning her career in 1934 after winning an amateur night at the Apollo Theater, she gained prominence with Chick Webb’s orchestra and her 1938 hit, “A-Tisket, A-Tasket.”
Fitzgerald’s three-octave range, impeccable diction, and improvisational skills – particularly her scat singing – defined her unique style. She moved to Decca Records in 1946 and later Verve Records, where she recorded her celebrated *Song Book* series dedicated to composers like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin. These albums preserved the Great American Songbook for future generations.
Throughout her six-decade career, Ella won 13 Grammy Awards and sold over 40 million records. She collaborated with numerous jazz greats including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Frank Sinatra.
