Eivind Aadland is a Norwegian hardanger fiddle player and composer rapidly gaining international recognition for his innovative approach to traditional Norwegian folk music. Born in 1976, Aadland’s career blossomed after studies at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, where he explored both classical and folk traditions. He isn't simply a performer of *gamle stil* (old style) Hardanger fiddle; Aadland actively expands the instrument’s sonic possibilities through extended techniques and improvisation.

His discography includes critically acclaimed albums like “Vatn” (2017) and “Avfall” (2021), both released on ECM Records, showcasing his solo work and collaborations. These albums demonstrate a unique blend of deeply rooted folk melodies with contemporary soundscapes, often incorporating electronic elements subtly. Aadland frequently performs solo and with ensembles like Sinikka Langeland’s band and as part of the duo Frigg.

He has received numerous awards including the Folkelarm Prize (Norwegian Folk Music Award) and has been lauded for his ability to connect audiences with the emotional depth of Norwegian musical heritage while simultaneously pushing its boundaries.
