Eddie Palmieri is a highly influential American pianist and bandleader, born December 17, 1936, in New York City. A pivotal figure in the development of Latin jazz and salsa, Palmieri’s career began in the vibrant post-war Latin music scene of the Bronx. He initially gained prominence with Tito Rodriguez’s orchestra in the 1950s before forming his own influential ensembles.

Palmieri's style is characterized by its complex harmonic arrangements, driving percussion, and a unique blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz improvisation. He’s renowned for incorporating elements of *guaguancó* and *son montuno* into sophisticated arrangements, often featuring extended piano solos.

Throughout his six-decade career, he has released over 35 albums, including landmark recordings like *Azúcar* (1965) and *Eddie Palmieri Sings* (1978). A nine-time Grammy Award winner (including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013), Palmieri’s compositions – such as “Azúcar,” “Muñeca,” and “Vamonos Pa'l Monte” – have become staples of Latin music.
