Ed Lyon is a British countertenor renowned for his versatility across Baroque, classical, and contemporary repertoire. Initially gaining prominence within opera – notably performing roles like Radamisto (Handel) and Sesto (Mozart) at prestigious venues including Glyndebourne, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Opernhaus Zürich – Lyon has increasingly focused on concert work.

He’s a highly sought-after interpreter of Bach, particularly the cantatas and *St Matthew Passion*, frequently collaborating with leading period instrument ensembles like The English Concert, Academy of Ancient Music, and Les Arts Florissants under William Christie. Beyond standard repertoire, Lyon champions new music; he originated the role of Prospero in Thomas Adès’ *The Tempest* and has premiered works by composers such as Kaija Saariaho.

Lyon’s discography includes numerous recordings of Handel operas and Bach vocal works, earning critical acclaim for his expressive phrasing and technical brilliance. He's also known for his commitment to historically informed performance practice and a warm, richly textured vocal tone that distinguishes him within the countertenor landscape. He currently teaches at the Royal Academy of Music.
