Experience Eastern Standard Time
Eastern Standard Time (EST) was a Canadian smooth jazz quartet active primarily during the 1990s and early 2000s. Formed in Toronto, the group comprised saxophonist Kirk MacDonald, guitarist Kevin Laliberte, bassist Alain Bédard, and drummer Mark Kelso. They gained prominence with their self-titled debut album in 1993, achieving Gold certification in Canada.
EST’s sound is characterized by melodic sophistication, incorporating elements of contemporary jazz, R&B, and pop influences. Their music frequently featured strong melodies and accessible arrangements, differentiating them from more avant-garde jazz artists. They released four studio albums – *Eastern Standard Time* (1993), *Are You Listening?* (1995), *Dynamic* (1997), and *Passages* (2001) – all garnering significant airplay on smooth jazz radio stations across North America.
The band earned multiple Juno Award nominations for Instrumental Album of the Year, winning in 1996 for *Are You Listening?*.
