Experience Dukes of Dixieland
The Dukes of Dixieland, originating in New Orleans in 1973, were a highly successful traditional (Dixieland) jazz ensemble. Founded by pianist and vocalist Spencer Barefoot, the group initially featured his brother-in-law, trumpeter Paul Margouleff, and quickly gained prominence performing at Disneyland. Their sound was characterized by a lively, upbeat style rooted in the early New Orleans jazz tradition of artists like Louis Armstrong, featuring prominent clarinet, trumpet, trombone, banjo, tuba and drums.
The Dukes achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1970s and 80s, releasing over 20 albums – several achieving Gold and Platinum certifications. Notable recordings include *The Dukes of Dixieland Play Jelly Roll Morton* (1978) and numerous Disney-themed albums capitalizing on their park residency. They consistently charted on Billboard's Top Pop Albums list with albums like *Dixieland Giants* (1977).
Beyond recordings, the Dukes toured extensively across the United States and internationally. While personnel shifted over time – Paul Margouleff remained a constant presence – they maintained a dedicated following until their decline in the late 1990s.
