Dre, born Andre Romelle Young on February 18, 1965, is a highly influential American rapper, record producer, audio engineer, record executive, and entrepreneur. Rising to prominence as a member of N.W.A alongside Ice Cube and Eazy-E in the mid-1980s, Dre pioneered the gangsta rap subgenre with albums like *Straight Outta Compton* (1988).
Following N.W.A’s disbandment, he launched a successful solo career with *The Chronic* (1992), showcasing his signature G-funk sound – characterized by heavy basslines, synthesizers, and melodic samples. This album also introduced the world to Snoop Dogg.
Dre co-founded Death Row Records and later Aftermath Entertainment, discovering and launching the careers of Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar. He’s renowned for his meticulous production style and ear for talent.
