DJ Battlecat, born Remone Smith in Kingston, Jamaica, is a highly influential dancehall and reggae selector renowned for his distinct “Badman Style” – a raw, energetic, and often minimalist approach to riddim selection. Beginning his career in the early 1990s on sound systems like Stone Love and Kilimanjaro, Battlecat quickly gained respect for his exceptional dubplate (exclusive recordings) sourcing and skillful mixing.

He’s widely credited with popularizing the “split-second” cut, a rapid-fire switching between vocal and instrumental versions of riddims that became a signature element of modern dancehall. Battlecat transitioned to radio with ZIP 103 FM, further expanding his reach.

A prolific producer through his own label, Freedom Sounds Records, he’s responsible for creating iconic riddims like "Bad Long Time" and "Evil Thoughts," frequently voiced by top artists. He's toured internationally extensively, consistently performing at major reggae festivals globally. Battlecat’s influence extends beyond DJing; he's considered a pivotal figure in shaping contemporary dancehall sound and continues to be a driving force within the culture.
