David Robertson is a highly regarded American conductor, celebrated for his compelling interpretations of both standard repertoire and contemporary music. Born in Santa Monica, California, he established himself rapidly, becoming Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) in 1999, a position he held for thirteen years. During his tenure with the SLSO, he significantly raised the orchestra’s profile through innovative programming and critically acclaimed recordings – including a Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition in 2008 for John Adams’ *Doctor Atomic* Symphony.

Robertson is known for his meticulous preparation, collaborative approach with musicians, and a particular affinity for American composers like Adams and Ives. He currently serves as Chief Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (since 2014) and holds the position of Artistic Director & Principal Conductor of the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln (since 2015). He frequently guest conducts with leading orchestras worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra. His performances often emphasize clarity, dynamic range, and a fresh perspective on familiar works. He's also dedicated to new music commissioning and education initiatives.
