Experience David Campbell
David Campbell (born December 9, 1933) is a highly respected American orchestrator, arranger, and composer, renowned for his extensive work in pop music. Though initially a trumpet player with the backing bands of artists like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in the 1950s & 60s, Campbell transitioned to arrangement, becoming a crucial figure at Capitol Records.
He’s best known for his orchestral arrangements on The Beach Boys’ *Pet Sounds* (1966), significantly shaping its innovative soundscape – particularly on tracks like “God Only Knows” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” His contributions extended to albums by The Righteous Brothers (“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'”), Elvis Presley, and Nat King Cole.
Campbell continued arranging throughout the 70s and 80s, working with artists like Glen Campbell (no relation), Linda Ronstadt, and Anne Murray. He received a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) in 1967 for The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations." Beyond pop, he scored several films and television shows.
