David Bloom is a highly respected American jazz saxophonist, composer, and educator. Emerging in the late 1980s, he quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic technique and lyrical improvisations on both tenor and soprano saxophone. Bloom’s career blossomed with extensive touring and recording alongside prominent artists like Phil Woods, Slide Hampton, and Rufus Reid.

His distinctive style blends post-bop sensibilities with influences from classical music and world music traditions, particularly incorporating elements of Indian ragas – a direct result of dedicated study with Ravi Shankar’s disciples. Bloom released several critically acclaimed albums as a leader, including *Double Image* (1992) and *Life Force* (1995), showcasing original compositions praised for their harmonic sophistication and melodic inventiveness.

A committed educator, Bloom has held long-term faculty positions at the New England Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, nurturing generations of aspiring jazz musicians. He continues to perform internationally, leading workshops and maintaining a vibrant presence in the contemporary jazz scene.
