Experience Dave Kelly
Dave Kelly is a British blues guitarist and singer, renowned for his authentic Chicago blues style despite being born and raised in Surrey, England. Emerging in the 1970s, Kelly initially gained prominence with the band Nine Below Zero, contributing significantly to their raw, energetic sound which blended blues with pub rock and early punk influences. He left Nine Below Zero in 1980 to pursue a solo career focused on a more traditional Chicago blues approach.
Kelly spent considerable time in Chicago itself, learning directly from legendary bluesmen like Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, who notably invited him onstage frequently. This mentorship profoundly shaped his playing – characterized by stinging, precise guitar work and soulful vocals. He became a regular performer at Kingston Mines nightclub in Chicago for over two decades.
He’s released several albums as a solo artist, including “Right Before Sunrise” (1993) and "Here & Now" (2007), earning critical acclaim within the blues community. Kelly continues to tour internationally, maintaining a dedicated following and upholding the legacy of Chicago blues while adding his unique British perspective. He’s considered one of the most respected British blues guitarists of his generation.
