Darrett Adkins is a highly respected American mandolinist, vocalist, and songwriter deeply rooted in traditional bluegrass music, yet known for pushing its boundaries. Born in 1953 in Blaine, Kentucky, Adkins began playing professionally with his family’s band, The Adkins Brothers, at age 12. He gained national recognition during a decade-long tenure (1986-1996) with the acclaimed Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, contributing significantly to their award-winning sound and serving as a featured performer.

Adkins' style is characterized by incredibly precise and innovative mandolin technique – often described as “chromatic” – alongside a clear tenor voice steeped in Appalachian traditions. He seamlessly blends traditional Scruggs-style picking with jazz influences. Beyond performing, he’s a sought-after instructor, holding workshops globally.

A multi-award winner, Adkins has received International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) accolades including Mandolin Player of the Year nominations. He's released several solo albums showcasing both instrumental prowess and songwriting talent, including "Darrett Adkins" (2008) and "Faces of Tradition" (2014).
