Experience Daniel Kidane
Daniel Kidane is a British-Ethiopian composer, pianist, and founding member of the contemporary classical ensemble, Neue Bohemia. Born in London in 1986, Kidane’s work frequently blends minimalist aesthetics with influences from Ethiopian jazz and traditional music. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and gained early recognition winning the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize in 2013 for *Ancestral Song*, a piece exploring his Ethiopian heritage.
Kidane’s compositions have been commissioned by leading orchestras and ensembles including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, and Aurora Orchestra. His album *Solstice* (2017) received critical acclaim for its evocative soundscapes and delicate piano writing. He's also known for scores to film and television, notably contributing to the score for Steve McQueen’s *Small Axe* series (2020), earning him a BAFTA nomination alongside collaborators.
His style is characterized by repetitive structures, layered textures, and a deeply personal exploration of identity and displacement. Kidane continues to perform internationally as a soloist and with Neue Bohemia, advocating for greater diversity within classical music.
