Dan Nimmer is a highly respected jazz pianist renowned for his deeply swinging, technically brilliant, and historically informed style. Emerging prominently in the 2000s, Nimmer quickly gained recognition for his work with traditional jazz masters like Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He served as Marsalis’s primary pianist for over a decade, touring internationally and appearing on numerous recordings including “Live in Cuba” (2015) which won a Grammy Award.

Nimmer’s playing is rooted in the stride piano tradition of Fats Waller and Art Tatum, blended with influences from Bud Powell and McCoy Tyner. He’s not merely a replicator; Nimmer infuses these legacies with a modern sensibility and remarkable improvisational skills.

Beyond his work with Marsalis, Nimmer leads his own trio and quartet, releasing critically acclaimed albums like "Dan Nimmer Trio – Live at Smalls" (2018) and "Move" (2023). He’s also a sought-after educator, holding positions at institutions like the Jazz Studies program at Oberlin Conservatory.
