Curtis Stewart is a remarkably versatile American violist and composer rapidly gaining recognition for blurring genre boundaries. Originally classically trained at the Juilliard School, Stewart transitioned from a promising orchestral career to forge a unique path integrating improvisation, jazz, and electronic music into his performances. He’s notably known for his work with contemporary ensembles like Flux Quartet and PUBLIQuartet, while simultaneously developing a solo career centered around looping and effects pedals – techniques he pioneered on the viola.

Stewart’s compositions often explore themes of Black American identity and history, drawing inspiration from spirituals and jazz traditions. His debut album, *Mosaic*, released in 2019, received critical acclaim for its innovative soundscapes and emotional depth.
