Chieli Minucci & Special EFX have been a cornerstone of contemporary jazz and smooth jazz for over four decades. Founded in 1981 by guitarist Chieli Minucci, the group initially emerged from New York City’s vibrant fusion scene. Their sound is characterized by a distinctive blend of jazz improvisation, funk grooves, and sophisticated arrangements, often incorporating elements of world music – particularly Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms.

Minucci’s signature guitar work, frequently utilizing effects pedals (hence “Special EFX”), is central to their identity. The band has released over 25 albums, achieving significant chart success with tracks like "Street Life" and "Compared To What," often reaching the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts. They’ve collaborated with numerous prominent artists including Bob James, Grover Washington Jr., and George Duke.

Beyond recordings, Special EFX are renowned for their energetic live performances and extensive touring history. Minucci also composes for television and film, notably contributing music to *Sesame Street* for over 30 years – earning him multiple Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music/Sound Editing.
