Cautious Clay, born Joshua Karpeh, is a gifted singer-songwriter and instrumentalist who has made a significant impact on the contemporary music scene. He was born on January 30, 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to Brooklyn, New York. He first gained recognition in 2017 with his breakout single "Cold War," which quickly became a viral hit.

Cautious Clay’s sound is an eclectic blend of soulful alternative R&B with elements of hip-hop and indie pop. His music often explores themes of vulnerability and human connection. Notably, he plays multiple instruments including flute, saxophone, guitar, and drums which adds depth to his unique sound.

After releasing several successful EPs like "Blood Type" (2018) and "Table of Context" (2019), he dropped his debut album "Deadpan Love" in June 2021. The album has been met with critical acclaim for its introspective lyricism and innovative production.

Throughout his career, Cautious Clay has collaborated with various high-profile artists such as Taylor Swift and John Mayer. His song "Swim Home" was featured on the Netflix show “13 Reasons Why” soundtrack. Moreover, he was listed in SoundCloud's "Artists to Watch" in 2019.

Cautious Clay’s talent extends beyond music; he also directed the music video for his song "Erase.
