Originally gaining recognition as the frontman for the post-hardcore band, The Almost, which released three studio albums – *Southern Weather* (2007), *Single Friends* (2009), and *Fear Inside* (2013) – Gunnell achieved significant success with singles like “Say This Sooner” and “Southern Weather.”
Following a hiatus from The Almost, Gunnell embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut EP, *Calm//Storm*, in 2017. He’s since released multiple EPs and full-length albums including *Age of Wonder* (2021) and *Painted Skies* (2023), showcasing a stylistic shift towards indie rock and alternative pop while retaining his signature raw emotionality.
Gunnell frequently tours extensively, both solo and with reimagined versions of The Almost’s material. He's collaborated with artists like Aaron Gillespie (Underoath) and has been praised for his honest lyricism exploring themes of faith, loss, and personal struggle.
