Experience Branford Marsalis Quartet

Branford Marsalis is a highly acclaimed American saxophonist, composer, and bandleader best known for leading the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Rising to prominence in the 1980s alongside Wynton Marsalis, Branford quickly distinguished himself with a sound blending jazz improvisation with elements of funk, rock, and classical music. The Quartet, formed in 1985, has consistently featured top-tier musicians – notably pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis, and drummer Justin Faulkner – fostering a dynamic interplay celebrated for its virtuosity and emotional depth.

Marsalis’s career extends beyond the quartet; he gained widespread recognition touring with Sting in the late 80s/early 90s and composing scores for films like *Mo’ Better Blues* (Spike Lee) and *Straight Out of Brooklyn*. He's a dedicated advocate for jazz education and served as Artistic Director of the Jazz Studies program at UNC Chapel Hill.

The Quartet has released numerous critically lauded albums including *Random Abstract*, *Music Evolves*, and *Funky Needle*.
